1) CORRUGATED CARTON BOX STYLE
A) Standard Style Boxes, Customized for your business
If you are looking for a cost effective solution to shipping your product then a standard slotted box is what you need. Although these boxes require taping for closure, they do not require any additional tooling to manufacture. Here are a few of the standard box style commonly used :
REGULAR SLOTTED CONTAINER (RSC) *IFC Code : 0201This is the most popular shipping container style. All flaps are the same depth and the two outer (lengthwise) flaps are one-half the container’s width, so they meet in the center of the box when folded. |
|
FULL-OVERLAP SLOTTED CONTAINER (FOL) *IFC Code : 0203All flaps are the same depth, and their depth equals the width of the box. When closed, the outer flaps come within one inch of a complete overlap. This style provides additional cushioning and protection against rough handling. |
|
FULL TELESCOPIC DESIGN (FTD) *IFC Code : 0300 / 0301This box style is made from 2 pieces – one body blank and one lid blank. Both corrugated pieces are shipped flat and can be assembled using stitches, staples or adhesive to adhere the corners. It has a sturdy lid and doesn’t require any fastenings to close the box. This makes it ideal for products that need a little extra support but don’t want to use custom foam inserts. |
*IFC = International Fibreboard Casecode
B) Die Cut Boxes
Die Cut Boxes provide the customer the flexibility to design a custom-made box to their own personal specifications – size, design styles, additional folds. These boxes do require additional tooling to manufacture, but the personalized nature of these boxes are their strong selling point allowing our customers to utilize a wider variety of materials and design options :

C) One Piece Wrap-on
This wrap-on style is made from a one piece blank and is extremely supportive and protective of the content :
Cut Out Wrap |
Five Panel Wrap |
Single Face Wrap (code : 0100) |
These boxes can be printed with your company logo, text or whatever your heart desires. Some style may have a Manufacturers Joint which maybe glued or stitched.
2) CORRUGATED BOARD TYPES
It is very important to know the type of cardboard that you will require when ordering your boxes. These are three factors to consider when choosing the type of cardboard – The Material (paper), The Flute and The Wall Construction.
A) MATERIAL
At VIKING PACKAGING, we stock a wide range of paper materials, from High Quality Kraft to Recycled Medium and Liner. Call us to find out which material is best for your carton.
B) FLUTES
When dealing with differing types and styles of cardboard, we often refer to its flute, or flutes. The Flute simply means the type or size of corrugation that is sandwiched between the two outer layers of cardboard. Below is a small break down of the two types of flute that we offer at Viking Packaging and their respective strengths:
B” Flute cardboard is the perfect combination of strength and style. It has a higher resistance to punctures than the other flutes and usually consumes less space than the reqular “C” Flute. It is ideal for boxes that have to be durable but also need to have some style.
“C” flute cardboard has a very high stacking strength and a higher resistance to being crushed. It is one of the most commonly used flutes for shipping boxes and tends to perform the best when holding materials such as glass, furniture and food products.
C) CARDBOARD WALL CONSTRUCTION
Although most people think that cardboard boxes have only one type of structure there are actually two different styles of wall structure that we offer to our customers. Depending on which characteristics and qualities you would like to have in your box, you can choose from single or double wall structure :
Single Wall Corrugated CardboardThis is the most popular corrugation material used in the boxes we manufacture. It consists of only one layer of whichever type of flute you pick. IT is available in a wide range of board strengths. Generally, depending on what type of flute you have chosen (B or C), this type of wall structure is not the best choice for shipping heavy objects, but it is usually cheaper as less paper material involved. |
|
Double Wall Corrugated CardboardThis wall structure is made of one layer of “B” Flute and one layer of “C” Flute. Stronger than a single wall structure, double wall enables heavier objects to be shipped and should be used when a stronger box or extra padding is needed. Excellent for stacking heavier items. |
